“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward” Colossians 3:23
Ahhh..summertime is here! As we wrapped up the last week of school, I heard many of my mom friends comment on how relieved they were that summer was here and they wouldn’t have to worry about a schedule.
Not so with me. Please tell me I’m not the only one who experiences slight dread and the looming weight of now being the one responsible for creating and enforcing the routine my child so desperately needs! (Teachers, how do you do it for 180 days?) But, alas, here we are and I’m armed with a plan!
One of the moments I cherish most in our summer routine is the time spent each morning eating breakfast outside on the patio while doing a Bible study with my daughter. Sure, it would be nice to do this year round, but being far from a morning person and having an incredibly gracious God, we’ve found a sweet spot in only doing this in the summer and it really helps us kick off each day with a routine.
To prepare, I allowed my daughter to choose a study from my favorite Bible Study resources: Not Consumed. To my surprise, she chose Work Unto the Lord and I could not have been more excited since I was already planning to beef up household responsibilities! The wheels started spinning on the best way to make this meaningful and fun!
My plan is to tie in working unto the Lord with money management so we’ll also be utilizing Financial Peace Kids (affiliate link). Feeling strongly that we need to help prepare our children for the real world, I decided we need to create some positions for hire in our household and hold some mock interviews. It’s never too early to start practicing for what is to come!
On our first official day of summer, the morning paper will arrive (slipped under my daughter’s bedroom door) with a special Classified Ads featuring the jobs available for hire this week. My daughter will need to pick one or two, apply for them, and come to a mock interview. The pay, of course, will vary by skill and demand of the job. I can’t wait to see what she picks first!
Besides pay, our reward for hard work in the morning will be heading to the pool in the afternoon!
So there you have it! Generally speaking our routine will be Bible study, go to work, lunch, then play! Sounds doable, right? Let’s do this!
This is awesome!! Great idea!
What a great idea! Love this!
She certainly will be getting her cleaning done quickly if she wears rollerblades like when she was little in the photo! 😂😂😂 Great post, Kelly!
Kelly love your post. Where were you when J was raising my daughter. Oh that’s right you were off playing with her. You are doing such a great job with raising Anna, and now this Pod cast. Keep them coming I love reading them.
